Meritage Resort and Spa Announces Second Annual Cabernet Classic in Napa Valley November 4-6, 2022


Festive weekend featuring master sommeliers, rare wines, winemakers and culinary experiences curated by chefs to benefit SommFoundation

NAPA, CA. (September 13, 2022) – The Meritage Resort and Spathe AAA Four Diamond resort located at the gateway to Napa Valley, is pleased to announce the The second annual Cabernet Classic runs from Friday, November 4 through Sunday, November 6. Hosted in the beautiful winery complex, Cabernet Classic is Napa Valley’s premier event focused specifically on Cabernet in all its styles. The three-day gathering will bring together master sommeliers, wine enthusiasts, industry experts and world-class wineries to celebrate the region’s most renowned variety.

In honor of the event, $30,000 will be donated to the SumFoundationa non-profit organization that assists in the education and professional development of people working in the wine industry.

The exciting weekend kicks off Friday afternoon with a seasonally inspired gourmet lunch featuring wines from one of Chile’s most renowned producers, Lapostolle. Shortly after, a panel of world-class experts, including Jay Fletcher and Master Sommeliers Gillian Balance and Erik Elliot, will guide guests through a flight of Legendary Cabernet. The coveted wines included in this experience come from iconic and acclaimed Cabernet winemakers, like Penfolds, Gaja, Château Pichon Lalande and Heitz Cellar. The evening will conclude with a winemaker-led dinner featuring Cardiff Scott-Robinson and wines from Paraduxx. The one-of-a-kind experience will pair their visionary Napa blends inspired by internationally renowned Cabernet regions, with a menu of their culinary counterparts in a gourmet world tour of Cabernet heritage, crafted with the generosity of Napa.

On Saturday, wine lovers will take part in the Cabernet Retrospective, a tasting seminar that focuses on learning how the variety develops secondary and tertiary complexities over time. The panel of experts will be joined by Master of Wine, Ashley Hausman, and winemaker Donald Patz, who will guide attendees through 12 Cabernets spanning vintages 2004 through 2018. DAOU Vineyards will then provide guests with a lunch paired with inspirational wines Lebanese and prepared by a chef. The luxurious meal will feature their famous Paso Robles wines, including the superlative Soul of a Lion Cabernet blend. In the afternoon, the highly anticipated Great Tasting will take place on the lawn of the Meritage Resort and Spa with a breathtaking view of the resort’s vineyard. Guests can sip wines from more than 30 wineries in Napa Valley and beyond, while enjoying light bites. Paul Hobbs, Vasse Felix, Hall, Lapostolle, Freemark Abbey, Catena Zapata and Beringer will be included among the wine estates.

The final panel tasting, Around the world with Cabernet, will take place on Sunday after a decadent brunch. SommFoundation members will virtually transport guests to vineyards around the world via the SommGeo mapping tool, to see and taste the exquisite terroir in which this majestic variety is grown. Producers will include Villa Maria from New Zealand, Bindi Sergardi from Italy, Delille Cellars from Washington, Chateau Cantenac Brown, and many more.

The Meritage Resort and Spa invites guests to experience deluxe accommodations, deluxe amenities, elevated culinary offerings, on-site tasting rooms, wine experiences and more during the weekend celebration. Events will take place at the property’s multitude of outdoor and indoor event spaces, including the Food & Wine Center, Wine Cave, Spa Terra, Village Lawn, among others.

The weekend of indulgence featuring gourmet lunches, luxurious dinners and incredible tasting experiences is offered at $1,650 per person. Attendees who purchase the full weekend pass will receive exclusive access to Behind the bottle with master sommeliers to discover and taste rare nuggets from the library of the SommFoundation cellar, from producers such as Taittinger, Dominus, M. Chapoutier, Tertre Roteboeuf, and many others. Day passes and tickets for individual experiences are also available for each of the three days.

Exclusive to event attendees, the Meritage Resort and Spa offers the Sip & Stay weekend passport. For $4,000, guests can enjoy an all-inclusive package that includes accommodations for two, Weekend Passport admission for two to Cabernet Classic, and all taxes and fees.
